MedJet short-term membership plans include options for subscriptions for trips lasting for 8, 15, 21 or 30 days. Short-term plans cover one transport per person. Keep in mind that short-term travel insurance plans are only available for travelers under 75 years of age.
Medjet’s annual travel insurance plan is for frequent travelers that take multiple trips per year. It’s valid for trips lasting 90 days or less and can cover just you or your immediate family (up to five children) for two transports per year. To be eligible, everyone must be under the age 75.
Medjet offers two extended-stay travel insurance plans for expatriates who live and work out of the country. Annual coverage is available to cover individual trips lasting up to 180 days or 365 days. Security and crisis response
Each Medjet plan comes in two levels:
MedjetAssist: This type of plan provides coverage for essentials like hospital-to-hospital medical transfer, all expenses paid air transport worldwide and transport of mortal remains.
MedjetHorizon: This type of plan includes the same benefits as MedjetAssist, plus additional 24/7 travel security and crisis response evacuation services.
Therefore, a MedjetHorizon membership is essentially an add-on for security and crisis response.
Motorcycle return coverage
Medjet medical evacuation services don’t exclude adventure activities, so you don’t need extra coverage aside from a plan at MedjetAssist levels when you travel to ride motorcycles. The company’s motorcycle return coverage is optional, but it does come in handy when you have an accident and need to get both you and your bike back home.
Things not covered by Medjet Assistance USA travel insurance
As a reminder, Medjet is strictly an emergency medical transport service. Therefore, it will not reimburse you for any other travel or medical expenses incurred on your trip.
Some other common things a Medjet membership doesn’t cover include:
Keep in mind that Medjet is best used as a supplement to traditional travel insurance companies instead of an alternative.
As such, comprehensive travel insurance may cover things that Medjet will not.
Is Medjet travel insurance worth it?
Medjet can be well worth it, especially for travelers that prioritize medical transport and evacuation over other insurance benefits and for travelers that need greater control over where they are treated while traveling.
Some examples of travelers that may find Medjet worth it include:
Travelers with pre-existing Conditions:
Unlike some other travel insurance providers, Medjet doesn’t have restrictions for travelers with pre-existing conditions. If you are predisposed to needing assistance, Medjet may be a better option for you.
Travelers with special medical needs:
If you have special medical needs or suffer from a serious illness that requires specialized care, Medjet’s promise of access to appropriate medical facilities and care may make this service more worth it than other providers.
Travelers visiting remote or high-risk areas:
Medjet’s speciality is medical evacuation and transport which is ideal for travelers visiting remote areas or high-risk destinations where medical facilities may be far out of reach or not well equipped for serious medical emergencies. You can use this service multiple times on some plans.
Action or adventure travelers:
Unlike some other travel insurance providers, Medjet doesn’t have action or adventure sport restrictions, and therefore is an ideal choice for trips that involve extreme sports like, cave spelunking,? alpine skiing, or long distance hiking and climbing.
Frequent travelers:
Frequent travelers will find Medjet’s annual membership is quite cost effective versus other types of travel insurance. You can also request evacuation more than once on most plans, making it ideal for frequent travels.
While traditional travel insurance plans often include a broader range of coverage, such as medical expense reimbursement, trip cancellation, trip interruption, and baggage loss, Medjet’s specialized service can be a powerful draw to certain types of travelers.
If you’re looking for travel insurance that offers these and other types of coverage, here are a few plans we recommend:

Yes, Medjet is a reputable medical transport service program that is consistently rated as a top medical evacuation service for individual travelers and families.
Founded in 1991, Medjet has over three decades of experience with crisis response and medical emergency evacuation for travelers. It also has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB), so you can feel confident in making it home safe when you purchase a Medjet membership.
Let’s take a look at the key features and benefits of signing up for a Medjet?travel insurance plan.
Does Medjet cover medical expenses related to pre-existing conditions?
Medjet offers medical evacuation insurance to those with pre-existing conditions, so you can feel confident when you travel. A Medjet membership also has no exclusions for adventure travel, making it a good choice for those who travel to surf or rock climb.
Which is better, Global Rescue or Medjet?
Global Rescue and Medjet offer similar services and can be considered substitutes for the most part. One key difference is that Medjet often works out to be cheaper thanks to its membership model. Therefore, Medjet may be a better option for longer trips. For example, frequent travelers can save a lot of money by opting for Medjet’s annual plan.
What is the difference between AirMed and Medjet?
Both AirMed and Medjet offer medical evacuation insurance that delivers travel security to their members, but how they transport their members during a medical emergency or crisis response. For instance, AirMed employs its own fleet of aircraft and medical staff to get its members to a home hospital of their choice or a medical facility that can handle their care. Medjet, however, works with more local air ambulance services with their own medical crews. Closer proximity to your travel location may provide faster response times when a Medjet member requires evacuation due to medical necessity.
